Student Awareness Programme

GG INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Date Of Visit : 28 February 2012

VISIT TO IUCAA

National Science Day is celebrated in India on Feb 28, each year to mark the discoveries/ inventions made by Dr. C.V. Raman. The episode is venerated for his bequest and discovery of the Raman Consequence on Feb 28, 1927.

With an endeavour to promote scientific attitude, the school management planned a visit for the students of classes V to VIIIto the IUCAA (Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics) to attend in popular science lectures, demonstrations, screening of scientific films, Q&A sessions etc.

Even as we see a proliferation of fancy toys in shops all over the city, the visit to the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) changed their view on toys when they realized how technical and mindboggling it would be to create a new toy which would catch the fantasy of young children.

Dr. Arvind Gupta, whose current workstation is at Children’s Science Centre, IUCCA, University of Pune, has dedicated almost 30 years of his life to make headway into the lives of children with these innovative scientific toys made out of waste material.

The GGIS team, not just checked out the toys but also learn and tried to implement the learning into action. This shows that learning scientific principles is no longer restricted to classrooms and laboratories.
