My Green Earth Expo’12: My Eco-friendly Experience

A veritable display of environment-related projects marked the Green Earth Expo’12 that saw participation of about 30-40 schools of Pune. The atmosphere at the Balewadi Stadium was one of excitement and liveliness as children from different schools, in different uniforms mingled with each other. As it was my first experience of this Expo, I enjoyed it thoroughly and learnt a lot too.

The topic of our project was “Wood vs. Alternative Recycled Materials” showcasing charts made out of rice paper and handmade paper. One of the distinguishing aspects about our project was that we had made Hyacinth Paper in our science lab! I personally thought that we would bag the prize for “Most Eco-Friendly” instead of “Best Presentation” because every material used  in our stall was alternative or recycled. But considering this was our debut performance, I think we did a pretty good job if it. Atleast our sincere efforts bore fruit. The moral support and encouragement from Murad sir and other teachers brought a big smile to our faces. Sukhvinder ma’am was especially pleased with the way I gave my presentation of the model of the house to the visitors. That really made me feel proud of myself!
Mygreen earthOverall, I was impressed with the innovative and creative ideas put up by the other schools to spread awareness about the environment. In fact, this was the underlying reason for our participation in this Expo. So, winning the Best Presentation prize, I feel, is the icing on the cake.
However, I feel we still have miles to go as far as creating awareness about the environment is concerned because right behind our stall, wooden planks lay piled up!
